GUIDELINES FOR HOME, BUSINESS + PROPERTY OWNERS
Film production companies who choose to film in the Santa Fe region add significant dollars to our economy each year and provide economic security for our residents and businesses who rely on the film industry.
By allowing productions to film on your land, in your home, or at your business, you are contributing to a thriving local industry, boosting film-induced tourism and upholding our “film friendly” reputation.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN A FILM PRODUCTION ASKS TO USE YOUR HOME, BUSINESS OR PROPERTY:
The following guidelines can help establish an agreement between the property owner and the film company that is successful and beneficial for everyone.
THIS IS A BUSINESS PROPOSAL
Determine the nature of the project and how your location will be used. Will there be smoke, fire, gunshots or other special effects? Determine the exact number of days required for the shoot. Be aware that a “day” can be as long as 16 hours and can be either daytime or nighttime. Determine reasonable compensation. Location fees are negotiable. The owner should feel comfortable with the amount agreed upon, and a payment schedule should be established prior to filming. The owner may request and negotiate a security/damage deposit.
ARRANGE A WALK-THROUGH
Arrange for a walk-through with the Location Manager to determine specifics such as:
Should you or your neighbors have any concerns during filming, you may contact the Location Manager of the production company or contact the Santa Fe Film Office.
Establish clean-up requirements, who is responsible and when it is to be completed, and arrange with Location Manager for final walk-through for the owner’s approval.
